Wasted Effort?

Last Update: May 04, 2011

One of the things I read about in regards to internet marketing is the dead end. I tried this and it did not work. What am I doing wrong? I think about my own frustrations and the thousand times I have said this just doesn't work. So I read some more. Hang out in the forum reading about somebody elses problems. I read the heartfelt wonderful blogs, some about success, some about failure and then I get busy and study some more information on seo, google algorithims, writing a successful article, backlinking techniques, the psychology of marketing, how color affects buying decisions, how the placement of content on a web page can influence the reader. You get the idea. I've read myself into a circle and started over and done it again.

I'm old, about 170, if I remember right, and my disposition is not inclined to carelessness. In a not so distant past I ran an eighteen wheel refrigerated truck all over the country and one the things that you learn early on is that no matter what anyone tells you, whether they are wearing a  badge on their shirt, or if they are just some lunatic waving a gun, you don't do as your told. Misplacing 80,000 pounds can cause some real problems and you're likely to only make that mistake once before you start using your own head.

"All right you long winded hick, hows this got anything to do with marketing?"

Mental conditioning, patient reader, I have learned not to act without careful consideration. How do you suceed in your marketing efforts? Action. Are you writing those five articles a day? Or are you thinking about what your first article said and editing it for the tenth time? Do you have an unwavering plan of action or do you try a few things and wait to see what the effect was? It has been stated that your value is relative to how much you are able to give. If people are not looking to you for answers and solutions then you can't succeed online or off. I am not succeeding online because I still don't understand how to communicate. Sure I can blast a few keyword related articles into cyberspace with a link to a landing page but it always leaves me a little flat when I stack it up against everything else that has been written. Defeated, when I look at my website and stack it up against all the others. All of the excellent tools and information within WA can not condition you for your real hurdle and that is providing your customer with something they can not get anywhere else. Something that makes them want to seek you out for your insights and information. What do you have to offer? The untouched niche is not going to benefit you if you are unbelievable.

Reshaping my brittle form for this elusive marketing dream is taking me some time. Learning to speak and convey the things I want in a manner that is informative and personal is not easy but it is of utmost importance because I will probably read what I have posted and I am my greatest critic. I want to give you something of value. Something worth reading. Something that makes you think. Learning by error is OK but most of the "jobs" we have had in life reflect a need for physical correctness as the consequences of ignoring that rule can result in injury, death or significant property damage.
The internet is not that finite. In its current form it is nothing more than an unsupervised day care so probably it's all right if I make a few thousand mistakes, but when it comes to it, I still find myself trying to define a disciplined straight line. I will conclude this rather long rant with the consolence that developing the skills, using the tools and learning materials here are not wasted effort, learning how to outstep our own limitations is another matter.

Rembrant used over fifteen coats of subtle shade to acquire his masterpieces, I with heavy crayon and spray gun create a steamy froth of writhing welts and hold my website up for the world to see.. Niche? Perhaps thats the missing element! I'll smear some of it on." I think, therefore I am" and I appreciate your light heart and good advice. You and all of the other well meaning people here keep my head clear and my direction true. Thank you.

Do you think maybe you're thinking too much? You have a very personal, colorway way of writing. I always enjoy reading what you write. Combine that style with info on your niche, and you're a stand out. Frankly, I don't know how anyone writes 5 good articles a day, unless they farm it out. There comes a point with this IM business that you just have to follow your own instincts, sink or swim. There comes a point you learn enough steps. I think you should follow a few steps, invent a few, keep moving ahead, and trust. The fun of IM is if you don't like what you did, website or whatever, you can keep drawing over the image.
