What Is Good Content?

Last Update: May 16, 2011

Writing an article for use on the internet is confusing. As an affiliate your aim is to promote a product. Somewhere along the line we discovered that by infusing keywords into the article that they will receive a higher rank. That is, googles search engine will recognize the value of an article and place it on their pages based on those keywords. We as new affiliates and writers find the mix can cause some unusual problems. New search algorithm changes have made it even more mysterious. Writing should be fun and natural, especialy if it is something you are truly passionate about. Here is the deal. The internet is evolving. It is becoming smarter. The people who use the internet are evolving.

The information you write about needs to be fat with fact. Why? Because less and less of your readers are going to be baffled by B.S. Hence the changes to google. How often do you open a site, article or page and recognize it as "shaded" sales page, or an obvious effort to engineer a higher page rank to sell a product? Do you stay? Your writing has to define real answers, not speculation. It goes back to delivering value. If your website offers fact, personal opinion based on your own experience or credentials, and is designed with good s.e.o. then it will naturaly draw a readership. Developing a careful balance that offers a means of monetizing it without driving your readers away can be challenging. Many of the websites that are in the enviable number one spot of google are the result of years of grooming. Take W.A. for example, it has grown into a monster because of the continual influx of value from Kyle and Carson. They do not take their membership for granted and have a genuine commitment that you "feel" on this site.

O.K. I'm wandering a bit. Finding a writing form that provides facts, incorporates the use of keywords and still expresses your individual style or persona is going to take some time. Don't be discouraged if your article does not develop a big readership. The people who are searching for information will not change, your writing style has to. Untill you manage to combine just the right amount of fact, personal inference, and s.e.o. that is attractive to your searcher, you will not have that readership. Write articles whether you post them on your W.A. blog, your website, submission sites or to your friends on your email account. Practice your craft and eventually you will find the style that engages your reader and satisfies your personal ambitions. It's that action thing again and a blank word program on your computer screen can be the single most humbling event in your life. Tell me about how you got involved with cub scouts. Tell me about how you built that rat rod in your driveway. Tell me why its still sitting there.

You can tell me things I don't know. What does that do for you? It means you have something of value to offer. Write about it. Share. Make writing mistakes and learn from them. How long does it take to get it right? Here is my ten thousandth effort.

This article is an exercise to provide specific information in an engaging way without getting to long winded. Oh well. Maybe next time...

Yup, there is a balance that will satisfy your readership and yourself. For me, it's much easier to read an article that feels like a conversation rather than one that feels like someone is preaching at me. Trick is to engage your audience and bring them into your personal space, like a good friend. If it's a really interesting site, doesn't bother me that people are selling stuff. I'm glad to have something to take away. I love freebies too. If I respect the site, I'll buy what they are selling, at least some of it. I think as an authority on a topic, you have to remember that people want your opinions, not just common opinions that they can get anywhere on the net. That's why I don't understand how people can pretty much copy info from a source and have any credibility.
