Bipolar Business Model?
Jamie's comment got me thinking yesterday. Both of those niches (over-40 dating and WiMax providers/devices) are worth pursuing. One is all tech-driven and seriously left-brained--and the other could just be a heck of a lot of fun.
WiMax...reporting on areas that are about to get coverage...reviewing the Clearwire service plans...evaluating the marvelous gadgets that go with the technology.... (I managed to get a very nice .com domain name, and I installed and began to set up a Wordpress blog today.)
Clearwire's got it all goin' on....new cities introduced to the service this summer, partnerships with Sprint, specialized products by Dell and others, and more and more excitement about both the home and mobile aspects of this awesome next-generation wireless. However, this one, since it's really only just beginning to get a foothold in the U.S. (Clearwire being the only provider), might just require a bit of patience before it blossoms. I can be patient, but I'd like to have something else going that HAS come of age.
Speaking of coming of age....Yeah, the over-40 dating thing. My, my, what a lot there is to write/advise/warn/encourage about. Personally, I have found it all to be a fascinating opportunity to meet, observe, learn, laugh, and grow. But for my friends who are pining to actually marry again (shudder), the stakes are much higher. There's a kind of insistent longing--as well a whole lot of insecurity. "I haven't dated in SO LONG. What if he ends up being a STALKER??!!!"
And at this point, I have heard fully detailed stories of all the major dating sites. Some of them rolling-on-the-floor funny. I've also heard all of the things people say when they don't want anyone to know they met Mr. Midlife Dreamboat on eHarmony.
So there you go. Bipolar business model. Wimax and Dating. Left brain and right brain. Still a lot more to research and decide, of course. And I know that the standard article-marketing advice is to rely on Squidoo, EzineArticles, and company. (I devoured everything by PotPieGirl before coming over to WA.) But I do Wordpress sites for clients, I love Wordpress, I own a number of premium Wordpress goodies, and I believe in building one's own domain.
I need to do two Wordpress sites--and I need to make the article marketing dovetail with those sites. And I need to learn much, much more about SEO.
Feedback is always appreciated. Is anyone else trying to feed left and right brain, draw on the professional and the personal, tell the technical details AND the good stories?
Time to put work away for a little while--it's Friday evening, and it's beautiful here in Virginia.
