Why do I Procrastinate?

After reading Kyle's post earlier this morning about turning 30 etc, his mention of the top 3 common reasons for failure got me thinking....

Why haven't I gotten further along in building my business than I would have liked to? Why have all my marketing efforts come to a screeching halt? 

Answer: Procrastination

Having been a member here at WA for quite some time. I am more than well aware of the techniques that are required to achieve success, but for some reason I am afraid of putting a large amount of time and effort into something without a guarantee that it will help me achieve success.

This became evident to me with a new site I was looking to promote. I know that you need a landing page and then you need the articles to drive traffic to said landing page. But instead of jumping in with both feet, I find myself second guessing myself. 

Is it really worth the time to write the articles that are required? Will they deliver results? Is Squidoo the right choice for a landing page or do I need a full blown Wordpress blog? 

All I do is keep asking myself questions, instead of just saying the heck with it and making some form of an attempt. I need to find a way to start making some form of money online but yet I seem to be my own worst enemy. 

Just today I finally got around to doing some keyword research for my Squdoo Lens and came up with 10 that will work, but I still find myself avoiding the one task that MUST be done. Writing my articles. 

Instead of completing this task, which I know is some way will get me one step closer to success, I instead find myself getting distracted by other things. Sometimes its building my network on the new site I want to promote, other times its the stuff I still need to get rid of on eBay. Either way, it all boils down to procrastination. 

I need to find a way to work past this, otherwise may soon find myself starting the year 2012 no better off than I am now.

I know how you feel. I often find myself going thru the same thing. I think dawnmitchell is right on point with her comments. If we remember the seasons that she's talking about, it gives us courage to keep going. And the patience to wait with good expectations.

Jen, Your website looks great. Keep up the good work. I am fairly new working a full time job myself. I am not as far as you. It has taken me two months to finish 8 email lessons. But it will pay off in the long run.

We can be our own worst enemy. That is where putting in the time and having faith that if we do the right things day in and day out, success will come. I see this in my insurance business. Some days I go out on appts and come back with nothing. I consider that practice, other days I come back with $100's of dollars. But if I continue to do the things I know will make me successful it will eventually happen. I keep in mind the farmer and his job when I am going into this.
There is preparation of the field time: ie. Learning
There is seed time: ie. Planting or setting up our websites or writing articles.
There is cultivation time: That is going back and checking our stats, maybe tweaking things in our websites or placing ads.
Then there is harvest time: Where we will reap the benefits of what we have planted, cultivated and harvested. Everything has a season and a system. And IM is no different. Best of luck to you.

Yeah, when you mentioned questioning if all your hard work would yield anything, you hit the nail on the head. I think many people question that. That means we don't truly "believe". You have to "believe" down deep. Not always easy to do. If you just enjoy yourself with no reward, it might help keep you working anyway, but you must believe you are on the path to success in order to succeed.
