Buying a new computer and interested in knowing which brand you guys consider the best right now. I know that Apple is a favorite. I like them too. But want a PC for this work. Someone told me HP isn't as good as it was, and that Dell is good. What do you suggest?

Toshiba has always been the bulletproof choice for a laptop. I carried several of these from one end of the world to the other. Never had a problem. They can be a bit heavy though. Sony Vaio is also a good product. I have had mixed results with the quality of dell laptops over the years. Never with the desktop models. Get your heat working yet?

For laptops I have a Toshiba, a Dell, an Advent and an Alienware... I know, I don't know why totally either! And for a desktop I have a quad core Dell. Anyway, the Alienware laptop is by far the best but that is VERY much reflected in the price, the Advent and the Toshiba are OK, they do what they are meant to do and very reasonably priced but feel a little 'cheap' in the build quality. The Dell (both laptop and desktop) are by far the best all rounders for the money and I have actually had about 4 or 5 of them over the years in various forms. So my vote is Dell for best all rounder for the money from experience although obviously this is only from personal experience, I have heard good things about Sony Vaio too. Lots of Dell models to choice from though so there is the next problem!

I have a Dell and had a Dell prior to this one and when I worked a 9-5 job I had a Dell there too.

I really like Dell, can't say enough good about it, but I'd research as I'm sure you have.

I'm currently using a Sony Vaio lap top along with my desk top. A friend at work who fixes computers for a side business/hobby said a mutual friend of ours had a Vaio laptop for five years then gave it to his wife - she's been using it for two years and hasn't had any problems.
So probably either Dell or Sony would be good ones.
