google only slaps nice looking websites...
Last Update: April 20, 2010
Yeah, that is right.
Google doesn't punish my UGLY looking beasts...my lame sites with no graphics, or my sites with weak looking templates.

I have been doing this quite some time now and although on the outside it looks that Google has done some major shifts with their algorithms, really, they are just taking preventative measures.
They are trying to prevent scammers.
They are trying to prevent fluff-filled websites.
They are trying to prevent lame search experiences for their users.
Read my blog post to get more info on my ideologies and experience with this.
Google Loves Junk, but they love it because _______?
Take it easy,

If you are the actual merchant company, yeah...you are what you eat (meaning you should represent yourself via your site how you want to product to be represented). However, if you are capturing an audience via search that is hungry for info, design is not as important.

Kyle, Good article. Thanks for writing it. I already posted on your blog inside. More to say. I sell an actual physical product that needs to be showcased because it's a designer product and think you have to present it.
Have heard this claim before, that ugly websites sell. It's funny and should come as a relief. Good news. But it's gotten me a little anxious. I like simplicity and think the website should not compete with the product. But if you're selling a visual thing, don't you have to back it up with the visuals? I'm already seduced with the concept of selling better.
