Predicting Customer Behavior with Doggie Poop
Umm.. What!? How's THAT for a Blog Title?
Today I want to talk to you about the association of Doggie Poop with Predicting Market Trends & Customer Behavior.
So, I recently adopted a new Puggle puppy and have named her Darth Vada. This would be the female version of Darth Vader. Here's an image of Vada..
Yeah.. I know she's cute!
Now, with owning a puppy certainly has it's perks - but also comes with some immense responsibility. And one of those responsibilities is puppy potty training.
I find the easiest way to teach Vada to go potty outside is to time it slightly AFTER she eats or drinks.
For example, I feed her in the morning (7:00am) and make a mental note about this and predict that she'll need to go do her 'business' within 30 minutes after she eats.
And you know what? It works every time!
OK.. almost every time.. lol
Alrighty.. now that you have this on your mind, think about this in the form of online marketing with customers and predicting their behavior patterns... It actually isn’t any different!
Let’s expand on this in several different areas:
- When you build a website, you predict how a visitor is going to navigate
- When you write content, you predict how a reader connects with the article
- When you market via email, you predict how often you send emails
- When you PPC, you predict how many clicks you can get
- When you research keywords, you predict how many searches there will be
I can go on and on.. but I am confident you understand the point I am getting at.
Marketing is essentially the art of prediction and making assumptions based on customers’ actions in the past & present.
So, before you start with any online marketing endeavors.. I urge you to take a step back and make some predictions on your potential customers’ behavior as it could be the difference between success and failure.
You can't predict website behaviour without having traffic. You can't predict a PPC campaign until you have data or experiences. It all comes down to doing, taking action, and refining campaigns.
People are like dogs after awhile, very predictable!
