Is it Amazon or Me

Last Update: May 05, 2012

I have started to get decent traffic to my site and average traffic is going to Amazon, but the conversions are horrible, just horrible.

So is it Amazon or me...I have set my site up and it is reaching many kw on all my pages and is ranking ok for some kw like position 1,2,3, within google.com and .ca & u.k even in austraila I believe I have a # 1 position.  It amazes me where my traffic does come from and all the pages my site is on in a good position.

I felt I did alot of work to get this site to where it is today considering all google has put many of us throught (our fault or not).

I still add content and I notice a few things have been up and down just a bit, not much of a deviation but some (i like it when they go up).  I have no real arguments on my position (all # 1 positions would be better) I realize that all at # 1 might be a strech, just somthing to reach for that's all.

I guess my concern today is how do you get the conversions, so is it the product I sell that folks are not really willinig to buy from Amazon...maybe do not know....I see on my stats that many folks stay on site and read all reviews that I have and that makes me feel good of course.

Now there is no doubt in my mind that folks just read a review and go to theire local store and buy the product, I have done the same and that is ok (better if they bought off me but) they at least came to site and recieved the info they were seeking, so I feel that is my job, it is workinig they come, but do not purchase...

With all that said, should I stick with Amazons products, or may be change affilates and see if the conversions will increase.

At least in my area you cannot get many golf laser rangefinders from local retail shops, at least not a wide variety, of course cannot tell about the rest of the world.

I have been doing some rangefinder research for two reasons, one for content on site, the other to see when this product came to market.  To my surprise Leupold came out with theirs in 2007 and bushnell around 2001 so their associates tell me.

I hate to give the site up as there is most deffinatlly a labour of love that I put into the site.  But how long do I addd content and see traffic and click throughs and no purchases.

Did I just pick a product that does not convert well, or is it the affilate, or is it me in  some way.

I would love to hear all thoughts on this, or are you experiencing the same thing, traffic no conversions.

I do not know how to combat this, or do I just keep adding content and see if I can rise to #1 all over the place?   Need some help with this.....HELP....

When do you cut your losses.....

Well, without seeing your actual site and product, it's hard for me to say exactly what the problem would be. From my experience, Amazon usually converts very well as long as your site's content is targeted towards highly relevant information that "presells" the reader into buying the product. Price is also a factor. More expensive items may pay a higher commission, but they also usually feature a lower conversion rate (unless its a very hot item).

If you want a bit more guidance you can PM me your site details and I can give you a few ideas and comments on your site.
