Brought a Domain... Now What?

Last Update: July 17, 2012

As many members of WA have said, there is an abundance of knowledge at our finger tips and it is overwhelming. I have learned so much already. However, I am having difficultly applying what I have learned so far.

I have achieved the following since I have joined over a week ago:
  1. Among others, I have read through the Your First 10 Days training: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/share_zone/view/1238/s/Tdrhi4nE
  2. Identified a Niche to pursue
  3. Identified and Purchased a .com Domain (CAUTION - it took over 48 hours before I could verify it was set up correctly. However still not too successful at accessing it.)
  4. Began drafting my website content in word and will add it to my website, once I figure out how.
  5. Researched affiliate for my niche in hopes to gain some revenue.
  6. Begin reading through 30 Day Success Club - Internet Entrepreneur Certification: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/share_zone/view/1057/s/GuXFN3Bf

However, for non-tech person that I am, I have hit a few road blocks. I have read some blogs and trainings stating that I need an FTP program. So I downloaded it and logged into it. Yeah me! BUT my first barrier is that have no clue as to what needs to be done within the program. :(

My next barrier is trying to figure out how to connect to WordPress. I believe is a program used to build content on my website. Once I solve this mystery I will be able to get rolling.

So I have a few mysteries to solve but not too shabby for my first week and not having a computer technical background. :)

Thanks for stopping by!

The one thing that had me stuck for the better part of a week when starting was... How do you get to the log in screen for your site?

It is quite simple really Type your URL (ie. sitename.ext/wp-admin) followed by /wp-admin. Up will pop your login screen and off you go once you have added your login details.

Record the login details somewhere eventually you will have many logins and will want to rely on something other than your memory.

@ Labman I had to laugh because that was part my problem too. :) However my admin page wasn't pulling up for a few days. So I think I should have just waited a while longer.

But I did hit a break through and was able to access my page today! :)

Hi - Congratulations on getting so far and having done so much work. As Kyle has said you really don't need the FTP program at this stage.

If you have bought your domain name and the DNS (Domin Name Servers) have been pointed at Wealthy Affiliate you can use their website builder "BUILD WEBSITES" under the PREMIUM SERVICES" tab on the left hand side of the screen and build you website.

The screen tells you the information you need to put in and will only take you minutes to complete.

If you'have a go but find yourself struggling to complete - suggest you go straight to the Live Chat and ask someone for help. There's sure to be someone arround who will be able to help

Best wishes

Congradulation on the new domain I can't wait until I buy one then I will be able to guide you I may have to wait until mid december to buy a domain I think you go to click bank and cut copy and paste product link to your new domain to promote or sell maybe even Amazon affiliate programs just plug and play with your new domain.

FTP stands for File transfer Protocol... it is for uploading files to your site as well as downloads. There are several out there and each operates a little different. I use Filezilla which is a free download with a drag and drop type of set up. It works on both
MACs and PCs. but has slightly different sequences to achieve the same thing depending on which OS you have. Since I don't know what you have, I would suggest you read the instructions that comes with whichever FTP program you have. Also check out the tutorial area in WA. Since I don't know your OS can't do much to help. Good luck

Thanks mama2karsten! FileZilla was the FTP that I downloaded. :) I am not too sure I what files I need to upload yet. My OS is a PC. I probably need the For Dummies series on building websites. LOL!

Are you building your website here in WA? or where you got your domain name?

You actually shouldn't really need to FTP anything at this point, so I would disregard this. If you are ever required to FTP any files, let us know and we can walk you through the process. Our website builder here takes care of the website creation process (all the file transfers) for you, so we take most of the techie stuff out of it for you naturally. :)

Congrats on your progress thus far! :)
