Google ditches metatag search?

Last Update: June 19, 2010

I heard today that google is ditching its meta tag search on sites and no longer counting them.  does anyone know if this is true?

Hey Dusan, thx as always for your thoughts and the links---and the joke bout it must be true, it's on the Internet. Followed your links, came up with this synthesis:

"These are the only Meta tags Google recognizes. http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=79812

Most other meta tags are junk and worthless - and meta tags on their own are a very small part of ranking.

Next time, try using the template and provide a URL and the details requested and we can at least look at the website and help troubleshoot the site for any issues you may have. This is more of a diagnostic forum than an SEO forum."

I did follow it to Google, looked real to me. As Dusan implies: on internet, true. Gotta love it !

I read that Google isn't using it any more, but Bing and Yahoo are, though it's not as important as it used to be. It's still suggested to use them. Can work in your favor if it's an odd keyword, especially for Yahoo which is 20% of the search market. May as well put them in.

It's what I heard too. Don't know if it's true. But it's on the internets, so it must be true.
