Acting on Jay's Live Case Study

Last Update: June 08, 2012
've been following the Live Case Study Wabinar and decided to use it on four new sites. Why four? Well it was just a number I chose. Many people will tell you to focus on one campaign until it's making money. I absolutely agree, but find it counter productive to my own situation and my own goals. I'm trying to keep the sites pretty close to the timing of what Jay has shown on the Wabinars. I'm going to update this forum as I move on to different phases. Each update will be referencing what I did and how ling it took for all four sites combined.

Why am I doing this? Well I want a way to keep track of what I'm doing once I erase my white board. The other reason is that hopefully something I do will help others.

The phases are:
Phase 1 (Live Case Study Wabinar 1): Build Site (no content really), plugins
Phase 2a (Live Case Study Wabinar 2): Banner, Contact Page, Privacy Page, Ratings, YouTube Video, Google+, Plugins
Phase 2b (Jay had to add more content later as the video was going long, so I am doing the same): Main Page Content (below YouTube video), About Page, a few Visual Tweaks
Phase 3 (Live Case Study Wabinar 3): Meta Description Update, Leverage, Digg/Reddit
Phase 4: Blog Post - I'm waiting to see what time frame Jay does this on the sample site.
Phase 5: Backlinking

**Updates
04/20/12 - Complete Phase 1 (1h:45m). This phase is pretty darn easy once you get organized and get moving. My plan was to wait exactly a week like Jay did, but I noticed the site indexed a few days in and had an opportunity to do some IM.
04/24/12 - Complete Phase 2a (3h:45m). I didn't do all of the content in one day, but kept track of my time and posted it all on this day.
04/25/12 - Completed 2b on 3 of my sites (3h:11m). Will complete the fourth tomorrow.
04/26/12 - Completed 2b on the last site (1h:13m). I also did some tweaks here and there that I missed. Going to let the site marinate and then on to phase 3.
05/02/12 - Completed Phase 3 (1h:50m). This would have been much faster but my PC was giving me problems. At this point I'll wait until everything gets caught up in the cache and then make a small blog post. After that I'll be backlinking.

Ranking Updates - 04/24/12
Site 1: Not Ranked.
Site 2: KW not ranked. "KW Review" #88. The domain name is KWreview.com which may have something to do with the ranking of "review" right off the bat instead of just the KW.
Site 3: KW #27. "KW Review" #87. The domain is KW.com
Site 4: KW Not ranked. "KW Review" #41. The domain name is KWreview.com which may have something to do with the ranking of "review" right off the bat instead of just the KW.

Questions and notes:
1. I'm wondering what would have happened had I chose domains that didnt have "review" in them as that's not a KW I want to target, but I thought the domain was attractive?
2. With the KWreview.com sites, would Google pick up the "KW" better if I removed some of words "Review" after the KW, like in the H1 tag, or the ratings star snippet?
3. Reddit wouldn't allow me to make 4 link posts one after the other. Not sure of the timing, but I still couldn't do another hours after i did the first. I emailed the moderators.

Thanks for reading,

Jesse

Ranking Updates - 05/09/12 (7 days after Wabinar 3 in the series)
Site 1: KW #24
Site 2: KW #94 / KWreview #30
Site 3: KW #16
Site 4: KW #101 / KWreview #37

I like where this is going so far. I have two sites that I feel will rank no problem with some minor backlinking which I'll start next week as I'm working 12 hour shifts this week. However I'm starting to see a coordination between having the word "review" in my domain name having a negative effect on the kw I'm actually trying to target (which is NOT "KW Review" on any of my sites).

Redoing this since we are phasing out the forums. Pasted the original post here and will reply with the update I posted as well. I have some good news regarding this that I'll post later this weekend as I'm really busy with my sisters graduation party.

Made a small update to this post. Feel free to click the forum as I'm getting lazy and don't want to keep posting in both spots. =)

I also do more than one site at once. I get impatient waiting for stuff from one site, so it gives me something to work on. Plus, I think that if you start with 4, chances are that one will succeed. With only one, you're kind of 'in' or 'out'.

Just a suggestion, but you will probably get more feedback and response if you post your actual content within the actual blog post Jesse. :)
