Penguin 1.1

Last Update: May 29, 2012
Any clues as to exactly what Penguin 1.1 targeted?
Was there some simple on-site SEO stuff targeted like KW's in url, title, h1, h2... and so on?

Really glad I didnt panic here, as my site has slowly been creeping up every day. Again it went from #4 to page three, but has slowly climbed back to the middle of page two. Very glad to see that it didnt just bomb lol! =)

Great to hear! This sort of thing has been happening a lot lately and the worst thing that you can do is panic.

This has now moved up to #8, so again I'm happy I didn't panic. Hopefully it will slowly creep higher than it was before 1.1 lol. Either way, I'm happy it's returned.

Thanks for all the input. I had one site move from #4 to page 3, but I'm going to wait it out a few weeks before I make changes. It's a quality site, so I anticipate if I have to make any changes at all, they will be small. It did use some spun content (via outsource) that may have indirectly hurt my site although it was ranking on page 1 long before I outsourced. All other sites after that one didnt use spun content, so I've gone completly away form that idea. However, one of my sites I built long ago that I havent really paid any attention too is now #1 after this change, which makes me happy. It's not built to make any money as it was a test site, but I can flip it around just a little bit and make a little coin now and again. The only backlinks to that site is are highly relevent forum signitures in my posts and highly relevent blog comments. There might be a total of 5 backlinks since it was created back in october.

Have you gotten anything that you can use yet?

Google is targeting anything that does not seem natural. The are funnelling gamers into a corner by giving "insight" into what their search algorithm is looking for. In reality, Google is looking for quality REAL content and they have a good grasp on languages and are only getting better. I can only imagine how many billions of words of text they have to analyze within Google Docs alone.

Kyle, you bring up a great point. Google has so much data that they can use the Googlebot is going to know more of how a human should talk than actual humans do!

Yeah, recently moreso than ever it appears as though they are using their "human language knowledge" to improve upon their search rankings. Focusing on density and backlinks is truly a thing of the past and can often times do more harm than good if not done very strategically.

Google is looking for natural writing which includes the LSI (latent semantic index).

No one knows except Google. If you search around theres a lot of speculation. I wrote some of my thoughts on it in my blog but the one thing that Google confirmed is that it was targeting webspam, how we dont know for sure.
