CONTENT
CONTENT IS KING
I have, and continue to, learn so many useful marketing devices and tools here at WA. The tutorials ,the Forums, the one-on-ones, the blog posts, studying the efforts of others, all are contributingto a well rounded internet marketing education. I have put some of this knowledge to practice, experiencing the successes and failures that, I suspect, we all do. It actually is fun! Frustrating at times, yet still fun.
Having been a plumber or plumbing manager most of my adult life, IM gives me a sense of adventure, of learning. In other words, it makes me feel excited and alive!
Through all this I have been unable to shake off (I really haven't tried that hard!) a sense that content is still king.
I learned that concept early on. It attracted me to IM in the first place, since my "first love" has always been writing. I read volumes of work by the likes of Clayton Makepeace, Dr. Ken Evoy, et al.
"Establish yourself as the expert " in your field, I was told. "Give people what they want". "Overdeliver", a mantra of mantra's. "Let folks leave questions and ANSWER them!" "Have an easy opt-in mechanism and build that list".
My own experience leads me to believe that these principles work. They are alive and well. Article marketing is great, yet it is crowded with purveyors. PPC can work like a charm, assuming you know what you are doing. (See: Kyle and Carson) E-mail marketing has gotten exasperating for those who opt-in all over the place. (See: famousplumber!)
Information products, a super-crowded field, probably can do without my two cents worth.
My little niche, DIY plumbing, will deliver e-mails to folks who KNOW what they are getting. Plumbing repair or installation advice. Period. Once my site is "over the hump", drawing subscribers, folks will recognize me as an expert in my field. An expert with a sense of humor, yet reliable and honest.
I'm not sure I could accomplish those thing with article/blog. I probably could, yet just don't know how yet.
So, I'm gonna continue under the assumption (preconceived notion?) that content is king, while still reading and learning and reasearching other marketing forms. Thank you to all you good people here at WA! Always willing to help and give honest opinions. What a treasure that is! That treasure, in and of itself, is why I will stay on here indefinitely.
