I think it is vital to record everything - AS SOON AS YOU SEE IT.
It's easier to discard an unneeded scrap than spend two hours hunting through your web history.
Personally, I'm using a Wiki for my notes, goals and niche research. It's chaotic, but I know it's in there!

This is totally off topic - IE WA related. But, if you really like writing and want to get those novels out onto paper in an orderly, way, this man his on his game. You don't have to go to his seminar either, although it's awesome if you have afford it. His book is all you need! Let me know how you go.
