While optimizing a website we should think about it naturally and search engines will like your site, No doubt. You need to do optimization and promotion in a way that is justified and natural. Provide unique content so that people would get benefit from it, and search engines are meant for people.... so do things for the people and no need to be scared for all these updates. Only original and authentic work should stay and I fully agree with Kyle's viewpoint. No HYPE only real WORK.....

If I were to start a site from scratch in this day, backlinks would be the last thing that I would concern myself with. First would obviously be creating the site, second would be creating the framework, third would be quality content, fourth would be working on getting the content indexed at a quicker rate (through backlinks, articles or a Google Site Map).

Then backlinks would come. Google is actually punishing people that put too much emphasis on backlinks...and at very large rates. All the latest updates (Google Panda and Penguin) have been geared directly at addressing backlinks and slapping sites with too many of them.

Quality Content is KING.

Thanks Kyle for sharing wonderful process, that is the thing I was looking for.. and I really liked your steps, I do agree that quality content in king.. can you tell me that this backlinks method what I have mention is it good or bad after following your steps.. I believe the backlink is good for authority sites where there are lots of quality content.. do you think this backlink method are good for mini niche sites or review sites as we are been taught in webnair..

Cause Google Panda and Google Penguin really badly affected my some of huge site so I don't know how to clear it to come back in ranking and what should I do next to carry on with the site.. should I leave my site and build new site with in the same niche and focus more on quality content or clean it up..

With Quality Content itself, if we choose a good popular and competitive niche can we beat the number one rank in google, we need backlinks right and that is reason I have added this question, that is the thing I am looking for the answer, how to beat the #1 position in Google

Cause there are so many confusion going on this days after this Google update..and can't find any good case study to learn from it..

What I can tell you is that if Google sees too many backlinks or they are coming from places that look like "Back link farms", they are going to punish you. If you are getting backlinks in "unnatural" ways, Google is going to view you as trying to game their system. That is when people get slapped.

I would create content and then if your rankings are not doing well, slowly integrate a back-link agenda...

So kyle after adding content, ranking all the on page seo stuffs, if it does not rank well.. what should we do, do we hire SEO third party or which methods do you think to use.. to reach #1 ranking in Google..but thanks for sharing it...
kyle Premium
No, I would not hire a third part to do your backlinking tasks...this can get you into a big mess as these companies are still using dated backlinking techniques. I would first aim to get your site indexed by submitting a sitemap to Google (via Google webmaster tools) and then I would suggest that you consider getting some flow through links through some article directories (using quality, unique content there as well). You can use streetarticles.com as a starting point. This can speed up indexing and rank.

Yeah i'm starting to only have backlinks from articles and blog comments. All the other effort is going into my site for now on (adding content frequently)

Thanks Kyle, I am pretty much clear now..

I have a two-year old website that's ranking for 38 keywords. The link building work that I did myself are:

1. submitting to article directories
2. link wheels.
3. blogger blog with my keyword in the URL.
4. youtube videos

I did use linking services like Linkvana and ezarticlelink for some time. anyway, I've given up on trying too hard on the link building, i just focus on writing more quality content and publishing it on my website.

I agree with other marketers who say that you shouldn't build your entire business around Google - you'll go crazy that way.

I do also agree with that, so if we just focus on building quality content and forget about backlinks than do you think we will be winner in Google eyes..

In my experience, creating quality should come first before actively building backlinks. Make sure your content gets your readers hooked because Google does take into account the number of minutes your visitors spend on your website pages (it's called bounce rate in Google analytics). So that's one factor in the algorithm that you've tackled.

Quality content also makes your content valuable and Facebook-twitter-etc.-worthy (yet another factor in Google algorithm).

I suggest you spend at least one month just adding quality content to your site before building links and see what happens.

Hi Alam,

I'm not wildly successful online just yet, but from what I understand, most of your backlink ideas are pretty solid... but not all. Link wheels probably won't be as effective as the were this time last year, and they are a lot of work. I've heard of people getting sandboxed for getting too many forum backlinks... But I don't know if that's true or just a rumor. As far as web directories go, many of them want you to reciprocate a link to them, and two way links just aren't very effective anymore. And as far as search engine submission, it seams like pinging would be just as effective if not more so, and it is really easier to do.

Having said all that, social networks are great if you can get people engaged. Facebook, twitter, G+; they show search engines that people like your content, and that will lead to better rankings. I've seen big leaps in SERPS positions by a single blog comment linking back to my site. Article directories are great because they not only give you a little bit of linking power, but they also send traffic directly to your site if you can manage to get a good click through rate....

How old is your site? Google likes to play games with your head when you first get the site up and running. They'll shoot your results way up in the SERPS, then they'll drag you back several pages. It's just the way they role; probably their way of having fun... ;)

Anyway, don't give up on adding content to your site. Backlinks will help you, but on-site SEO is what I understand search engines are looking at first and foremost nowadays.

My site is not that much old, only I can say 8 months old but I was getting huge number of traffic every day, since the google updated my ranking went very far and lost many visitors and income.. but the point is I was writing quality content and getting backlinks at the same time..if I am writing quality content than why did Google updated harmed me..
urn357 Premium
I wouldn't give up on your site. The google update didn't only hurt people that were doing wrong, but also people who were doing right. I honestly still believe the kinks will get worked out and a lot of sites will come back because there were a lot of innocent sites that suffered. I have read too many stories of sites tanking that did none of the techniques that google supposedly hates. Just keep hammering away at the site.
