I am here to try to create an online business for one simple reason only. As I have never quite figured out what I want to do as a job, I looked at the question the other way around, what are specifics of a perfect job to me. The only real obvious quality to the perfect job for me is that it can move around with me, not me move to it. So I figure that an online business is the only true way of earning money wherever I choose to be in the world.

That's a good way to look at a carrier. The IM thing is HUGE in that there are so many different niches, venues, topics and categories. What you might do is ask yourself what your passions and/or hobbies are.
You mentioned being used to the social arena, (the niche within a niche for you sounds like second life) maybe find a way to help out the rookies in that niche, build a list, and market to them a complementary affiliate product until you can create your own.
In fact if you want, let's do a little market research, do an interview and put something together.
