Rant :)

I work in IT support. That's right, I'm the guy you call when your computer is "broken." Rather, it isn't doing just what you're expecting it to do, when you're expecting it to do it. Maybe you have a good relationship with me. Maybe you'd rather not talk about it. Maybe you never even thought about it. But I'm here, and believe it or not I don't live to fix your computer. A lot of times I hate my job because you don't follow instructions and would rather push the blame on me for your lack of understanding. On the other hand a lot of times I love my job because you're patient and willing to cooperate and resolve things together. I can be your best friend or your worst enemy. I don't know who you are and you don't know who I am. No matter the problem at hand: if you work with me I will work with you and we'll get past it. Some things take longer than others. Some things aren't as simple as they seem. Some things are far simpler than they seem. Like internet marketing, it's not that hard! I tend to over-complicate things that I assume should be difficult. P.S. This video has been circulating the net recently and there's a lot of truth to what Will says. I don't care that it's Will Smith saying it, but regardless I wanted to pass it along. Sometimes all you have to do is stop and listen. It's simple.

Awesome video, glad I found it on the forum last week (thanks again Debbie). Regarding your P.S. comment - why would it matter that Will Smith says it? He is only the most successful and highly paid actor in the world. He was also admitted to MIT before his music and acting career. Some people still think of him as "The Fresh Prince," but I think he may be our president some day (if he ever decides to run). :)

If you're ever frustrated with a call, tell them that the Flux Capacitor isn't working and they'll have to order another from the shop. Imagine listening to THAT conversation: "I just called IT and they told me that I need a new Flux Capacitor for my laptop - do you have any in stock?"

That is a great vid. by the way. So true....so true. And you're right. IT support can be tough! Our support dept at work is pretty good, but it's pretty easy to get frustrated with them because my computer isn't allowing me to do my job. That being said, it's not their fault it's not working. I try and keep my cool and do whatever it is that they ask me to. There's a reason why I'm "here" and they're "there"!
