Visiting again

Last Update: December 19, 2010

Took Calli ( third from left) visiting to the nursing home with my Therapy Dog Crew today.

We had a lab with antlers and a Corgi in an Elf hat.

Of course neither wanted to leave the decorative accessories on but it got a laugh.

Many of the same patrons were there from the last visit.  None of them remembered the dogs so it was like the first visit all over again.  It makes me feel good to provide some joy in their days.

One woman told me that when she heard dogs were coming she couldn't get down to the activities room fast enough. I bet she got all the way up to 1/2 MPH. She really enjoyed the visit and told  me all about the dogs she owned in her youth.

One small problem though.  Calli is bonkers about tennis balls.  All of the walkers have split tennis balls on the bottoms of the legs to keep them from sliding around on the floors.  There was an interesting moment or two when Calli discovered them and tried to retrieve them.

I always learn to appreciate the gifts that I have when I see people in this situation.  If you have an opportunity, stop by a nursing home and visit with the residents.  The stories are amazing and they so appreciate a change from the daily routine.  They probably won't remember the details but the feelings last for a while.
