I am a former U.S. Marine/MSG (7yrs) and spent approximately 12 years in the international security field providing security services for our U.S. Embassies abroad. Most of that was in the private sector.
I have travelled all over the world and seen many interesting places and cultures. My wife is from Bogota Colombia and I met her 15 years ago while working at the embassy there. She is an amazing woman and I love her dearly!
After leaving the Middle East in 2000, I had a mid-life crisis so-to-speak lol, and decided to change careers. Lucent Technologies was hiring in my area (Louisville, KY) at the time so I took a leap of faith and hired on with them.
After being there just two years (the bottom fell out in the telecomm industry) I was laid off so I was back to square one. I didn't let that get me down though and decided that was my opportunity to complete my education. Lucent offered an educational assistance severance package so I took full advantage of it instead of sitting around and complaining about why I got laid off.
I completed my bachelors degree in Business Management at IWU and went on to complete my Masters degree in Business Management as well. During graduate school, I applied for the Department of Veterans Affairs and hired on as a Veterans Service Representative.
Eventually, I was promoted to a position called the Joint Services Records Research Coordinator and in a nutshell, I was responsible for the research and most of the development of all Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) claims that came to our office.
If any of you have ever worked for the government, you know the quagmire of bureaucracy that is involved with the government. I loved my position and responsibility at the VA but hated the system! Simply put, from a management and military perspective, the operational procedures set in place at the VA severely conflicted with the mission statement of the organization.
That is from my perspective only and is the simplest way I know how to describe my experience there. Anyway, after three years there, I had finally had enough and without going into all the details, I resigned.
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit and wanted to start my own business but I never really sat down and had serious thoughts about what that could be, until now. I am not the brightest star in the sky, but I am not an idiot either, lol, and I can certainly learn and I am willing to do whatever it takes to succeed at this.
I have many ideas that I want to start and I feel that I have come to the right place to learn! Thanks for your time and I look forward to meeting and conversing with all who wish to correspond with me.
Cheers!

Well it's funny you said what you did my friend, tonight was graduation night for JuiJitsui and I earned 4 strips, next step is a blue belt, by far this has been the hardest thing that I have ever done. I supose the message is always look for what is the hardest in life and you will always become stronger through the challenge. I felt great after reading your email. It's emails like yours that blow me away. I see you doing nothing but achieving your dreams. There are people that only see black and white, my wife is one being a doctor everything is written, then there are people who want to know why things are written in black and white and what would happend if it were written in blue or red. I believe you and I think the same way. I am haveing a very nice landing page put together and I exspect it to be complete in a week or so. I want to share with you at some point how I did it and how i will use it to promote Wealthy Affiliate University. This site has so much information but the best thing I can tell you to do is take a day at a time, and use bits and peaces of what you learn on here and put together your own system so what you make comes to you. Always think to give to others and your system will succeed, I just have that feeling and I try to share it. it's very late and my wife put the kids down tonight so I know she is tired. You take care of yourself and your family and always put GOD first, you know all to well take it a day at a time:-).....................the old chief

My gosh, it's hard to put into words your emails response to me, and how you think the same way as myself. it's people like you that make the world turn. I have been where you have been and brother let me tell you, you are on the right track to success. Everyone thinks that the mind runs the body, it's the opposite, the body runs the mind. if you have a strong body it will over power the mind anyday. I believe our minds are our weakness it tells us we can, i'm not good enough, it's to hard, i'm a nothing and so one, but a body in trainning will always rule your thoughs. If you push you body, the body will tell the mind you can because you body is doing it:-) i'm glad that you emailed me and you strike me as one of those people that always land on their feet, not their back. You keep trainning and let me know how everything is going. My goal every year is to be in the best shape of my life. People don't know that we , the ones that have to deal with drugs and everything also have the strongest wills. We also have a higher spirit that we believe in I choose to call that spirit GOD:-) you are blessed and I'm just so happy for you, and very thankful for your emails. Please never give up and I'm telling you , you will succeed and do it beyound your goals. challenge yourself everyday, who knows one day we will have enough money to fly and have a dinner then return home:-) on our on jet....................the old chief

Jerry,
All I can say is WOW! You are an inspiration my brother and I am truly grateful that you read and responded to my intro. Your story sounds somewhat similar to one of the top five motivational speakers in the world. I%u2019m sure you have heard of him%u2026 his name is Les Brown and he is phenomenal! Anytime he speaks I immediately stop what I am doing to listen to him and without me even knowing you, I see you doing the same thing as Mr. Brown. So, hang in there and keep up the great work! Us newbie%u2019s will benefit tremendously from your inspirational words and wisdom. Thanks for all the info on your space.
I have copied it to a word document and saved it so I can read and reread it when I feel I need a push. I too have had similar circumstances with the alcohol and drug addiction battles. Had it not been for the Marine Corps, I would have no doubt been a professional %u201Clicense-plate maker%u201D as many of my former friends became. Amen on your devotion to the Lord and many blessings to your success!
Most people fail in life not because they aim too high and miss. Most people fail because they aim too low and hit. And many don%u2019t aim at all, so%u2026 shoot for the moon, because even if you miss, you will land among the stars! %u2013Les Brown (Success Magazine).
Cheers!

Jerry,
A many many many congratulations to you for your achievements in Jujitsu! That is no small achievement and you should be extremely proud of that accomplishment! I%u2019m slowly (notice I said slowly lol) working my way back into health again. I let myself go for years (drank too much, ate like crap, didn%u2019t exercise) and basically cried myself to sleep because I was nothing like I was during my Marine days. All I did was blame myself but did absolutely nothing about it.
This year I had an epiphany, and finally decided to get my life back on track. With the encouragement of my wife, I began to exercise once again and eating right. Within three months I lost 42 lbs and I feel so much better! However, I%u2019m not done %u2013 not by any means%u2026 My goal is to run the mini-marathon next year in Louisville and after watching all of these amazing Senior Athletes here at Palo Alto, CA at the Senior Olympic Games, I plan to compete in some of these events once I turn 50. I%u2019m not too far off from that either so I%u2019m going to do it and have four more years to train for it.
I would love to do what you are doing and thoroughly enjoy doing various %u201CBag%u201D routines (Speed-Bag, Double-ended Bag, Heavy Bag) workouts. I love anything (especially training) that deals with boxing or MMA workouts so I%u2019m with you my friend! Charge on and I salute you!
Cheers!

Hey Jerry,
Sorry took so long to respond%u2026 been busy out here in Palo Alto, CA. I agree wholeheartedly with what you said about the %u201Cbody%u201D and the %u201Cmind%u201D. I firmly believe there is a link there, and I know I could not get the jumpstart I needed with the ideas I now have, without first taking the steps to get my health back on track. I plan to continue my training regime and I will encourage you as well on our path to success! I know we will both succeed beyond our wildest imaginations because I have already seen it. Now it%u2019s time to take %u201Caction%u201D and to implement the necessary steps for that success.
I will welcome the time and day when we both have achieved the beginning stages of our goals which will allow the time and money for that dinner you mentioned! It will be done my friend %u2013 charge on and if you need a push of encouragement then do not hesitate to drop me a line! Cheers!
