Hmmm...the freshness factor. Since Google is giving points for freshness, it might be a clever idea to incorporate a current event with your topic somehow. It would have to work, make sense, or be congruent in some way. If Google picks up on what's fresh, not just a new article on an old topic, then this can be a good way to boost your ranking.

This is a really interesting topic because some niches are evergreen and never change much from month to month or year to year so updating it would be a challenge, then there are subjects that are constantly changing so I guess it depends on how much time a person has on their hands. Because if a blog requires that much attention for freshness it may be necessary to outsource or get guest bloggers.

Google knows which niches require updating. If you're in a niche about the Templar Knights, you're not going to need much updating. If you're in a niche about which starlet wore or did not wear underwear at some show yesterday, you'd better update daily.

Those were extremes. To make the point.

The point is, Google knows, so you should know it knows and act accordingly.
