6 months What I Have Learned

Last Update: January 11, 2010

I have been here 6 months. Since I am a teacher and one of those whole brained people that have to understand the whole picture as well as master the details, I probably spend too much time learning and not enough doing.  I have used two niches for my training, so I did something!

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED

  1. The flow chart needed for a campaign and the order it should work.  article(s)>Squidoo lenses and/ or blog>affiliate landing page>product
  2. I understand Key Words, where to place them in articles and am gradually figuring out how to use KW tools
  3. What domain and hosting are and how to buy and set up
  4. How to make a website on Site Rubix and hook it to hosting
  5. How to make a free blog and create the links on the side bars
  6. How to make a Squidoo lens and anchor links and import You Tube videos to them
  7. How to organize all the information in here and keep from succumbing to the overwhelming sense that hits you every time you turn around.
  8. Which means I learned how to successfully re-group
  9. How to write tutorials that will help other new people make sense of all this
  10. I have three tutorials or articles that show step by step how to find a niche.  I went through one of them and followed the plan.
  11. Found a niche Baby boomers who are getting ready for Retirement that I can gear lots of campaigns towards
  12. I can write a 400 word article for Ezine the first time, without having to cut a 900 word article down to size.
  13. I have learned to use the article templates in Ezine as an easy ways to write original content on the same topic.
  14. I have learned enough html  particularly the <a href =" link code to use in Squidoo
  15. I know how to use spinning software and make backlinks  but have not done it yet
  16. There are blogs that no one reads, you submit to them simply to create backlinks--go figure--
  17. If you are lucky you will find a buddy in WA who will REALLY help you and become real friends along the way.
  18. sometimes your questions do not get answered in the forums becasue there are so many I need helpI do not know what I am doing posts from newbies, so you just have to ask a second itme.
  19. There are a bunch of peole on here who take the time each day or a few days a week to answer people's questions
  20. I know who the go to techie person is n WA!!
  21. There are great tutorials and horrible ones in WA  learn to so a quick look and pick the worthy ones,
  22. Do not spend too much time on tutorials two or three good ones per topic is enough, at first.  Always can go back later

MISTAKES I MADE

  1. Not paying close enough attention to the difference between an affiliate landing page and a sales page.  My two websites lean more towrds sales pages and less toward affiliate landing pages
    1. I need to go back and change the look of those things.
    2. Put more of me into it
    3. Make them be review style or personal testimonial style (without the nauseating feel)
  2. Not signing up for the opt in pages of anything I promoted and double checking to see if the affiliate code stayed with the various links
    1. My main product, math games,  is a top twenty clickbank product but i got minimal sales.  then I find out that if you sign up for the newsletter, which is the first thing on the website, and you click on any links from the newsletter the affiliate code is lost
  3. Not double checking each and every link before publishing. AND not going back a few days later and checking Squdoo links that were working.
    1. Needless to say, I had broken links-thus my new tutorial
  4. Not following through with consistent weekly or bi-weekly blog posts
  5. I have yet to join forums to create an authority presence and I need to do that.

GOALS FO 2010  Up until July 5  my 1 year anniversary

  • I need to follow in the example of Pot Pie and in either weekly or twice a month go through the whole process in setting up campaigns and eventually will find the ones that will be profitable to me
  • I will master the steps this way and begin to master all the little things like key word tools
  • Fix my retirement website up and make is less sales page and more me giving my two cents  and review products
  • Use OWM and WA as the one two punch in promoting to retirees. and be passionate and more organized about it.
  • Become a forum member on the retirement site and any others that look to be profitable
  • Set up a weekly or bi-weekly schedule to make sure I cover all the little things that need done
  • Take the article marketing certified training course.and not wait until I earn the money
  • Consider taking  promoting WA training course even though I have not been successful yet-- it might bring in income---
  • I need to figure out how to get hired to write for other people  on here so I can get positive ratings and then others will hire me.  right now there are three or four who get all the work

Just found a gem. Point 13 - the Ezine templates. A wonderful resource to, as you say, prompt fresh content
Great tip thanks

I was very discouraged in December as I was getting lots of traffice but no sales, Kyle suggested I make a post of what I have learned and hone in on goals.
In your first month you need to take it slowly, look at my overwhelmed tutorials. keep it simple and pick something and try using what you learned to build something. Success from what I can tell is based on what you do the second third and fourth time through as you get better

HOLY COW! That's a really detailed post! You must be a teacher or something...

I have been here for just over three months and I briefly went over what I've accomplished during those three months. Now naturally I haven't made the money that I really want, but to sit and think what I've done so far is absolutely awesome! It brings light at the end of the tunnel!

Nice going and keep up the awesome work!
