The month..
Last Update: July 05, 2012
It's been awhile since my last activity here at WA but I think I'm finally starting to get things back together. Last month I had a military training which rendered me web-less for two weeks. Unfortunately I wasn't as prepared for this hiatus as I had thought I was. Upon return I planned to take a few days to relax. Unfortunately I had major problems. Because of the popularity of my websites I was overloading my shared hosting accounts. Mind you I have a few dedicated servers setup as well for my more popular sites but these others still had a few months left on a shared account in my opinion. Apparently, I was wrong. I got an email saying my site was going down because of the high usage and it was causing problems for the entire server. I immediately took action and moved the site to a dedicated server but the damage was done. My traffic had cut in half.
This made me realize I needed to update my workflow and the technologies I was using. Although I'm working on some tweaks basically I now have a large "cloud" server as my development server, I have a few "live" servers that are a bit faster and higher performance and an entirely new workflow for my projects in which I've added Dropbox, git, and my new iPad into the workflow. It all seems pretty good right now and I'll be able to tweak as I go along.
I've decided to put more effort into a new project that I won't be able to give many details about yet but it will become something that I think will benefit a lot of people so be sure to stay tuned for that.
Anyway, it seems WA has been doing well and I'm glad to see it. I hope to catch some of you in the chat soon or in some other fashion.

We just went through a couple of crazy hosting weeks as well...from Wordpress worldwide being hacked to amazon having a power outage to hardware issues on some of our larger application servers...
Weeks like this will happen and sometimes you just need to roll with the punches! Great to see you back bro....good times ahead!

That's unfortunate about your traffic being cut in half. However, there's nothing like being away for a little bit that shows you where your weak points are in your business.
