A Spike in Sales

Last Update: June 29, 2010

I have spent months converting a recommendation site into a content site.

Prior to beginning the conversion process I was generating about $100/mth. Just enough to keep my interest.

But as I began to implement the changes sales fell off.  I would see traffic from the search engines as expected but the sales weren't there. They would look at a couple of pages and be gone. So I had trouble converting that traffic. Maybe there were the free info seekers or maybe I didn't build an effective page.

Recently I have tried a new campaign using a stand alone landing page. By stand alone I mean that while the page had the look and feel of the website, it was not linked to other pages in the site or was not in the standard drill path a user would logically follow to reach a detailed description of a product.

Once I posted the articles (keyword researched) I began to see the traffic as expected. The click through rate was much better and I got a few sales.

Now I am working to use the same techniques on the older pages that weren't producing. I sure hope that does the trick.
