Use Google's WILDCARD Suggestion to Drum Up Keyword Ideas

Last Update: July 10, 2010

I saw this tip on LifeHacker this morning and just had to pass it along.

You're probable aware of Google's autocomplete feature on their search page by now. If you goto Google.com and start typing into the search field, Google will suggest a popular phrase to search for you.

Here's an example of the results I got when I started typing 'how to lose weight.'

Google completes the end of the phrase for you with some of the most searched keyword phrases.

But did you know that if you go back and remove a word, Google will use the most popular wildcards searched to complete the phrase for you? Here are the results when I deleted the word 'lose' from the search field.

As you can see, Google has given me quite a few popular keyword ideas to use.

Go try it out now!

Bro that is hot. I've used the autocomplete feature but never knew about that wildcard thing. Been wanting to do that for a while. Thanks for sharing.

Nice trick, use it to find keywords but make sure to research the keywords with the tools here at WA.
