Make backups

Last Update: December 30, 2010

So, I went to Fantastico to check out all the websites I have, and to update all of them to the new Wordpress version. And, like a moron, I clicked remove. I never confirmed it, but it took something out, so I'm going to have to find a way to restore them.

HostGator can restore them for a $15 one time charge, so it looks like I'll be contacting them to get the backups restored. They verified a backup was done on Sunday, so I won't have lost too much.

Moral of the story? Make backups!

Daniel, I too lost a hard drive a few years ago. And of course, everything of importance was on that hard drive. It happened to be 10 years of stuff from all my old computers. I was never able to get it all recovered, as an arm broke and was loose, and I didn't have the $1000 to get it restored. You'd think I'd learn from that, but no, of course not.
Just before I became a member here, I lost my hard drive. Wow! What an awful mess! Having to go to a much older computer with one gig of memory was awful! You very quickly learn the meaning of download hell and data recovery anathema when trying to restore from CDs! It took two months to restore about 95%. Of course, the remaining 5% was the most important and most irreplaceable data of the entire hard drive!

When you do back up...do yourself a huge favor and make two or three copies! You wouldn't regret it!

Will a little piece of gold make you feel a little bit better?

Thanks for the story and the warning. I have saved my WP pages and posts in Word files, but not a full back up. Good reminder. Thanks
