I'm finally starting to think like a marketer

Last Update: March 28, 2010

And what the hell took me so long? LOL

What's really dumb is that I've been in marketing since I graduated college! But I think the problem with being a marketer while you work for someone else is that you don't really care about what you're marketing! Or, maybe that's just me. :)

Anyway, I realized that I'm starting to think like a "real" marketer when two things happened in the past few days.

First, I received a flyer in the mail for a local heating and air conditioning company. They wrote in their flyer that they would give $100 for a referral who bought a new heater / air conditioner from them.

My mind immediately starting going. "I wonder if I can find some local keywords about this?" "Maybe I can send referrals from a web site."

But, I don't know. Writing about heating and air conditioning? I would probably die of boredom!

Second, I was flipping through a magazine today, and I saw an ad for a product that I was VERY interested in. I immediately ripped it out of my magazine and went online to see if they had an affiliate program.

Guess I have a new campaign to work on. :)

So, I think my mind is starting to shift now. I'm seeing more and more things out there that I can try to sell online.

Maybe I'm finally starting to get this stuff down. Finally! Haha.

That is SO ME! I look at everything except for the product! I listen to how they're talking to me, the order in which the words and pictures play into each other. I dissect their purpose before I even look at the product!! So either I am a marketer or just OCD about other people's campaigns!

That's funny and true. I was watching Donald Trump's Celebrity Apprentise tonight with my sister. They were promoting Norton and some other security thing. The two of us had the whole campaign designed and were sure we would never be fired by Mr.Trump. Ugh, Can you imagine working for Trump?
