SO LONG dot.com...Hello dot.ANYTHING

Last Update: May 24, 2011

Not sure if you heard the latest news related to the change with our beloved TLD domains (.com, .org, .net).

Seems as though there is a major change coming to a screen near you.

Here is a summary of the article:

"In a worldwide internet revolution to be announced next month, web addresses will expand beyond dot.com, with governments, businesses and entrepreneurs expected to rush to apply for signature domain names.

The move will reduce confusion and cut reliance on search engines like Google.

Imagine bypassing Google because you knew you could go to `restaurants.sydney' or `bars.vancouver' and find every restaurant and bar listed on those sites."

My Thoughts?

For now, I'm going to be sticking it out with the .com's until we get more information on the above. It's still worth keeping in the back of your mind though as to the implications this could have for us as SEO's.

So what do you think about this latest twist?

Thanks for you comments guys. Yeah I agree, not sure what kind of an impact these will have on us, though it does seem that if anything they will be a good resource to enhance one's local marketing campaigns if nothing else.

I think those would only be good for local search but I wouldn't say so long .com just yet.

I remember they tried this with .travel and it ended up being like a fart in the wind.. :)

Sounds like it might be good to identify yourself locally, or regionally. Does it have value internationally, or even nationally?
