How To Setup A Website

Last Update: June 30, 2012

Hey there future website owner!

Thanks for stopping by to learn how to set-up a website. My name is Thomas and this is my blog here at Wealthy Affiliate.

In just a couple of paragraphs I will be giving you the links to a couple resources that you can find here at Wealthy Affiliate that talk about how to setup a website.

These tutorials are mostly focused on using a content management system called "Wordpress" for building websites. Wordpress simplifies the process of building a website by providing the framework. All you have to do is add your content.

You don't have to mess around with a bunch of html code just trying to make your website functional.

When you click on the training links you will be taken to the page where the training is located. You will be able to view the first page of the training.

If you want to view the rest of that particular training just click the little green button that says "Get Started Today for Free" located in the light blue box in the top right hand corner that looks like this:

***Note the image on the left and the title that's bolded will change depending on what particular training you are looking at.***

After you click on the green button you wil be prompted to create a new account using facebook. Don't worry there are no strings attached they won't even ask you for a credit card .

There are a lot of great things you can learn here and registering for a free 10 day trial will give you access to tons of great info. This blog post by Kyle, who is one of the owners of Wealthy Affiliate, sums up all the features and benefits of WA nicely:

Now that I've explained how that stuff works I can show you some of the training that's available. The best way to view these links would be to right click and select "open in new tab". You can also press CTRL and then click on the link:

How To Setup A Website -discusses choosing a domain, hosting, changing DNS settings, and installing wordpress onto the domain.

Wordpress Website Setup - First Steps - discusses core pages you will want to have on your website, recommended general site settings for usability purposes, and an explanation between the difference between "Posts" and "Pages" in wordpress.

Moving Wordpress Site From One Host To Another - I know there's the possibility that you might not want to stick around after your 10 day free trial is up. That's totally understandable. You need to do what's in YOUR best interest. However, you shouldn't have to lose all your hardwork. This tutorial shows you how to transfer your site from WA hosting to another hosting company that way you can continue buildind and marketing your awesome website without having to start over from scratch.

The following websites aren't really related to building a website per se, but I thought you might be interested in them:

6 Ways To Make Money With Your Wordpress Blog - Talks about six ways to monetize your newly created website.

The Proper Way To Use PPC With Your Website - Discusses critical elements of PPC marketing to include choosing keywords to bid on, creating an effective ad, and setting up your landing pages. Trust me, if you do PPC marketing the wrong way you will lose your shirt fast!

30 Day Success Club - Getting Started Course - A 30 day action plan. Each day has specific steps to do to set-up/market your website. Has a lot of great info. I highly recommend you check it out particularly if you decide not to continue with WA, that way you'll have some guidance on how to continue marketing your website.

Your First "10" - Getting Rolling With Wealthy Affiliate - This is a 10 day action plan. The owners decided that it didn't make sense to have a 30 day action plan when there is only a 10 day trial. They created this 10 day action plan to help you succeed with getting your website built and getting started on marketing it with your free 10 day membership.

Final Words

Like I said before if you want to see more of a training just click that green button to sign up. Also, stop by my blog and say "hi". You can find me after you 've signed up by typing in @ThomasPaul in the search bar and pressing "Enter".

If by chance I wasn't the one who you referred you, then just search for their username instead. I'm sure they would love to hear from you. Feel free to also say hello to me as well. :)

Final, Final Words

In the interest of full disclosure if you do sign up for a free membership I(or the person who referred you) will receive a $1 commission. If you end up staying around I(or the person who referred you) will receive a recurring commission for as long as you are a member.

Take care and have a great day! :)

P.S. - Fellow WA'ers. I created this blog post to test out some ppc traffic and see how it converts. You're welcome to share it as well, but I'd hold off on that for just a little bit.

The training that I've linked to within the blogpost has my permalink in it. If you share my blogpost with your permalink the permalinks in the post won't change. If someone clicks on the links there is the potential for your cookie getting overridden with my cookie.

I'm trying to figure out to link to the resources so the user can still see the first page without signing up and without including my affiliate link. I tried linking it this way:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/share_zone/view/536

but when you're not signed in the sign in box just blocks everything.

Kyle/Carson if you're reading this:

How can I link to resources within a blog post so a person outside of WA can click on the link and see the first page, while not including my affiliate link, so if someone else happens to share my page they get credit for the sale?

Once I get an answer to the above question I'll remove this and let you guys know. :)
