Could Really Use Some Feedback
Need to know if I'm right.
Part of my new plan is to become more deliberate and analytical so that I can assess my progress better. No secret, I am a horse sense sort of person who shoots from the hip and tends to land on her feet most of the time. I generally hate numbers. I noticed that most IM masters here are very analytical and are always checking stats. So I decided to check a few of my own things out this morning, starting with how my articles and keywords are ranking in Google.
I might be doing pretty well, let's hope. #4 on page 1 of Google of 1,150,000 results, #3 on page 1 of 337,000 results, # 3 on page 1 of 104,000,000 results, #1 on page 1 of 263,000 results, #1 on page 1 of 700,000 results, #4 on page 1 of 6,530,000 results, #1 on page 1 of 2,130,000 results, #2 on page 1 of 509,000 results, and it goes on. Tell me if I'm doing it right and getting accurate numbers. I put the keyword phrase in the search bar of Google. Sometimes just the longtail keyword that I was targeting comes up on the first page. If it pops up on the second page or third page, I add the next word in the title, not the whole title. And that seems to always come up on the 1st page. Again, I enter the keyword phrase that I was targeting plus one extra word that is in the title, not the whole title though. I don't put anything in quotes.
So, am I doing well or not? Running it by you to make sure I'm doing it right and getting accurate numbers.
Viral marketing is working. People are vigorously picking up my articles. Have run into problems however. There's been some piracy which I act upon as soon as I discover it. Another question: it's a full time job to track down pirates and I'd rather focus on building my business than playing cop. How do you handle this problem when it happens to you? It makes me very angry, but I don't want to waste time. Yet, you have to keep control of your own work and not make it too easy for them to steal.
Very happy to be able to ask you these questions. Look forward to your reply. Many thanks guys. J
Google tries to give you what you want. So if you googled a term before and selected a site, it's going to bring that site higher. If you do it several times, you're going to be number one on your computer but not on other people's computers..
Either use tools (Me, I love market samurai, so I promote it, but there are others) that aren't influenced by Google' s eagerness to please you, or use private mode, so Google cannot remember what you look at.
As regards pirates, if the articles are from ezinearticles.com or some other such place, just inform them that someone's been stealing their content and let them deal with it. They are better equipped.
But for getting traffic I would venture to say being in the top 5 on page one for any keywords is a good place to be.
I am still learning myself so hope this helps.
