Happy Birthday America!
Last Update: July 04, 2012
Did you know that the idea for an independent nation was born in England, way before anyone colonized America?
The Magna Carta was signed by King John of England in 1215 which put a limit on the arbitrary power of the king, definitely a beginning to lessening control by a monarchy.
Even though Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he was influenced by English philosopher John Locke (1623-1704), who wrote prodigiously about the right to life, liberty, and property.
Don't forget, the very first Americans were Brits. The British were among the most important colonizers of the Americas.
In 1776, America declared the individual is king.
Many countries have been influenced by John Locke, and followed in America's footsteps, declaring their own independence: France, Canada, Japan, Vietnam, and more.
Love, protect, value, honor your freedom. With it comes opportunity.
In America, we may set off fireworks as the sun goes down, and put shrimps and hotdogs on the barbie, but today is a celebration for freedom loving people across the globe.
So, Happy Birthday to all of us!
