Do You Know How to Live in the Moment?

Last Update: June 21, 2012

This is a constant vexation for most of us.

Why are we always racing somewhere, or muddying the water by taking on too many challenges all at once? Why is it so difficult to focus?

Do one thing. Remember what Ella Fitzgerald said?

Do one thing at a time, at least.

I just received a well deserved lecture. Well actually, it was a chewing out from someone very close to me. My close friend and confident thinks I am a lunatic. My friend is right, by the way.

I am a very disciplined well organized person who is actually undisciplined and scattered, and living too much in the future. What did I do that was so wrong? I substituted my brain for my heart, giving priority to the lessor of the two.

Let your heart lead you if you want to feel fulfilled and be happy. And that's where your greatest success lies anyway.

I had to be knocked to my senses, so I figured I could help you with the same tendency, if you are also sometimes challenged by not living in the moment.

Live like today is the only day you have.

Let me describe a familiar scene. It may or may not resonate with you. Your big plan contains many goals, some of greater importance to you than others.

You can't love everything equally, can you? So you have to prioritize. Something always takes precedence.

Typically, you may say, after I achieve X, I will be able to do Y, and then Z. What's wrong with that picture? Does it feel stifling in any way? Just writing it makes me squirm.

Do what you love the most first. Don't put off till tomorrow what is most importance to you.

The only time that counts is "now".

Take care of today. The future will take care of itself.

These aren't just words folks.

That's very true..Matthew 6:34 "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
