"Every Day Would Be the First Day of Spring"

Last Update: March 21, 2012

....if I ruled the world.

Wouldn't that be nice? We'd soon get bored with it. One day a year makes it special.

Dropping by for a visit folks. Since I haven't been coming in as much,  just want to say hello during a break. Been very busy juggling many things at once. I miss you guys. Always enjoy reading your news and keeping up with all the new things at WA. I do drop in very early morning and at night whenever I can.

I don't know what it is about early spring and early fall, but the creative juices start to flow these times of the year. Maybe it's just being in sinc with nature. A little bit anyway. New beginnings with signs of life. Green stuff. Love it! Also love longer days, more sunlight.

January is just the beginning of my work year. The good stuff happens after some speed has built up.  April starts the productivity stage. Things have built momentum by then. Building momentum is what it's all about.  Continues through summer, and gets another bolt of energy in late September. As the air starts to get cooler and crisper, ambition is recharged. Hard to describe the feeling, it feels like a creative surge. Am I ruled by the seasons? Yes, I am.

We have daffodils blooming already in our yard, and our big magnolia tree is ready for its yearly display of color. The tree is so tall,  I see it from my studio on the second floor, like a giant bouquet outside my window. Crocus everywhere, and snow drops. The garden is a tangled mess, and requires my attention.  I don't have time for it right now, lol. Nature won't wait for me though. Things are starting to leaf up, especially the roses. Love the chirping birds. Robins everywhere. And I noticed a large bee, wasp or something, trying to build a nest under my mailbox. The neighbor installed some statuary at the end of their driveway.  Well, as long as they like it.

It's the first day of spring!

Checked Farmer's Almanac for a weather forecast for the coming summer months. Because the winter in the northeast US has been mild, I have had trepidations about the summer being very hot. Good news! Won't be unseasonably hot, but it will be rainy.

I was at Starbucks yesterday checking out the coffee shop marketers, wondering if I would ever join them with my laptop, and my own table and latte, and trying to imagine how that would be. So far, I work at home unless it is to do research at B&N or the library. I often write at the water's edge (Long Island Sound), in my car during the colder months, but not when it's freezing.

I often think about all those great paintings Monet made in the snow. How did he handle the cold? He must have worn those gloves that have the fingers cut off for mobility. He produced some beautiful snowy scapes. My beach in the winter is spectacular, and deserted.

I like things quiet. Can't read or write well when people are talking, and like classical music when I work, not rock. Jazz is good. Hence, I sequester myself in quiet places when working. This is one of the best things about working from home. If you have experienced doing work that requires thinking, and people are milling about, then you must love working at home. Starbucks always has loud music. Even when I like it, under other conditions, makes it hard to concentrate when you are thinking. But heck, they didn't design Starbucks to be an office for me.

I suspect my fellow members here have some unique work habits. Care to share any of them? You might give us all some good ideas, and you might even make us laugh.

Now back to work one and all.

Hi Joan, Thanks for asking... My unique work habit is working all 24 hours in a day and try to get a good night's sleep (5-6 hours) every other night or day -whenever I can fit it in :-)

I have three projects that just became critical within the last 6 weeks... I had been trying to get the funding to get them going for over 5 years. I get to help the Veterns learn to use Dragon NaturallySpeaking... Tell more later must crash and burn
