Google Adwords Kills Affiliate Marketers!

Last Update: November 06, 2009

Hi All

Recently a client of mine mailed me in desperation.

It turns out that Google has banned him from Adwords and suspended all his ads without warning. They refuse to give an actual reason for the ban and refer to their new editorial guidelines and basically say "too bad, so sad."

Upon investigation, it turns out that he's not the only one. I'm a 100% organic SEO marketer myself, and I have to say, I'm REALLY glad for it; PPC is so dangerously uncertain that I'd be terrified to put all my eggs there, like so many of you do! I've been around for a while now (internet marketing) and in my experience, Google does this at least 2-3 times per year (it almost seems like an "Adwords Marketer Culling" is carried out every quarter) and it seems like the pace is only picking up, with less assistance and support from Google than ever. It's more like a case of, 1 day you're doing great with an excellent quality score, conversions the whole deal. Then *WHAM!* Out of nowhere Google puts you in their sights and fires a lethal shot at you and you're out of the internet marketing game for good (at least, for some reason that's how you Adwords Marketers react, which of course is bullocks!) Why would any of you want to go through this?!

Kyle and Carson advocate PPC as being a more stable and consistent IM structure than organic SEO marketing (or article marketing.) In my opinion, and with all due respect to K&C - HOGWASH! Google have seemed to target affiliates more and more. They want us OUT! I don't see any other explanation for their actions, since their only excuse(s) revolve around quality score / landing page editorial guidelines. My organic SEO campaigns plod along, and even if they drop a few positions, it's not hard to see why and it's just easy easy to fix (most times) even if it may take a short bit, oh and another thing: I'm not dependant on any single SE..... that ALONE makes my business far more stable and likely to succeed than any Adwords PPC campaign, especially with their ever-increasing BAD attitude!

I say, for your own preservation, diversify from Adwords, be it another PPC platform or organic, but don't depend solely on Google for your IM endeavours. I fully believe that you'll just ultimately set yourself up for disaster, and I base my position on the fact that these affiliate slaps are escalating and getting more and more severe!

Anyway, there it is, my 2 cents. Use it, don't use it.

Hi Ruggero,
I am a beginner in internet marketing and it is a valuable input and caution.
That sucks! Glad I haven't tried Adwords yet. Not totally ruling it out yet either, though. PPC is still a little down the road for me. Thanks for the 'heads up". ; )

Yeah a guy I know just got nailed about 2 weeks ago. Had a few PPCs going that brought him in about 10k a month while he was paying out about 1k...very hot area.

They shut all his camps down overnight with an email basically telling him he broke a rule. He replied and a week later got another email telling him not to email back - he was a bad boy lol.

I know his camps were legit, I helped him set them up.

Not sure what is going on but it's a wild game that PPC stuff is. :)

PS: I love organic.
