Week 4: Adding Content, Increasing Keyword Density

Last Update: June 27, 2010

In an effort to reach $1,000/month ($30+ a day) from my pets niche site by the end of August 2010, I have been adding content pages to the site, creating a few new backlinks, and improving the keyword density on the pages I've already built.

I wrote two new pages on a specific topic that has a great related clickbank product and have linked to the ebook from those two pages. They aren't indexed yet but should be within the week.

In addition to writing more pages, I've gone over some of my "old" pages and checked the keyword density for the phrases I am targeting. I had not paid attention to this important detail before, and some of the pages had less than .7% density for my main phrase --oops.  I added to them to reach a 2% level and still have a few more pages to tackle.

Whether these efforts will pay off in time to meet my end-of-August goal remains to be seen.  I'll post updates as I go.

What are you working on over the summer? What are your near-term goals?

I think its a good idea to wet an income target too, thanks. I have read recently that someone upped their keyword density to ^5 and it made a huge difference, but I have always been told between 2-3% too much keywords can be classed as spam. But it seems as though people are doing well at 6-7%. Good luck with your goal, I look forward to seeing it at is progresses.

I really appreciate your definitive goal. I am still spinning from returning to WA but settling a bit more, and feeling more comfortable. My goal for July is to get to $50 a day overall on a consistent basis - or something better.

Hi Writer Gig, I am writing up a storm, both for my website and blog and directories. One of my big bones of contention is keyword density. No matter what I do, can't get above 1.5% density. I think it's because my articles are on the long side. I don't want them to look contrived, so I'm letting them go out there and proliferate and do whatever they do. I never used to think about keywords at all and still did pretty well. It's very wise of you to set a monetary goal. I'm going to do the same.
