QOTD - Google vs Yahoo/Bing

Last Update: May 30, 2012
I spend all my SEO efforts trying to get indexed in Google.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read that Google accounts for about 66% of the overall traffic on-line. (If my memory serves me correctly, it was PPG that blogged about this) Leaving a third of your traffic unattended doesn't sound smart to me.

Has anyone here actively focused their efforts on getting indexed and ranked in Yahoo/Bing? If so, were your efforts worthwhile?

Thanks for reading and sharing.

OK, I'll focus on quality content and not worry about Yahoo/Bing.

A site of mine which was ranked #2 on page 1 in Google for over a year just totally disappeared. I wish I didn't feel so reliant on Googles search results.

Thank you very much for the great advice everyone!

Often times what you do for Google will work for Bing, although their rankings might not be as quick as your indexing is with Google. Once you gain some traction within Bing however you can get some awesome rankings and since Yahoo and Bing essentially are using the exact same search platform, you will be able to capitalize off of both.

Your Agenda should be awesome content, the search engines will be doing themselves a disfavor if they don't rank it....and they will as your history with them continues to get better and better.

It is funny how your sites will climb in the other search engines as they rank in Google. Often does my sites rank better in Yahoo and Bing than in Google. I had a site disapear in Google but it is still months later page 1 number 1 in Yahoo. The traffic I am getting from Yahoo vs Google is less though. Another site not to forget is YouTube. Looking at Alexa YouTube is the 3rd site, after Google and Facebook.

Hi Dee! I noticed that if I am indexed and on the first page or two of Google, then I am doing even better in Bing. Even my FB links and comments get picked up in Bing and my Street Articles too. Generally, if I have optimal keywords, I have been able to dominate the first page of Bing for them. So, I only go after Google, figuring the others will follow.

I haven't specifically targeted Yahoo/Bing...ranking in those search engines just kind of goes along with ranking in Google for me. I don't have the stats with me, but it seems that I do not rank for as many KWs in those other engines though. That might be related to how often they crawl a site. They may not be as aggressive as Google is on keeping everything up to date.

It will be interesting to see others' experiences.
