Copyright Pictures

Last Update: June 12, 2012
Up until recently, I haven't even cared about pictures. A 3rd sense of me has told me to pick pictures that probably won't constitute anything copyright, despite how I was often getting my pictures from just Google Search. I've decided I'm going to go ahead & use http://www.sxc.hu/ & put in pictures on all my images & posts that are all free. If you're somebody who often gets your pictures just from Google Search, I highly suggest you do the same thing. It's probable most of you don't have very many sites or pictures you use in the 1st place, so no big deal taking up a few hours of your time deleting, picking new pictures, re-sizing them, & perhaps editing them even further. No point worrying about something that doesn't need to be worried about.

I think when it's all said & done, the MAIN things are:

- You aren't using somebody else's publication or business for your own logo
- You aren't selling or redistrubuting somebody else's publication
- You aren't using a picture of somebody else's face to advertise somebody's products. (I used a picture of Jim Carrey not too long ago shortly before figuring out the possible consequences I could face if I continued to use that picture on my sites).

So if you haven't done it, DO IT NOW - even if it does seem lame at 1st. It's not a laughing matter.

Good advice. I'm a firm believer in always using photos you have the license to. I think there is a post in the forum where someone actually got sued by a company for copyright infringement. Maybe not sued, I think the companies lawyers were demanding a ridiculous amount of money though.

Yeah, it was last year. That was shortly after I joined WA. Some guy was getting sued like $4,000 per picture or something like that. If I were him, I would've just deleted the thing & ignored them. But anyway.... Best to avoid that type of situation in any circumstance.

I've been searching through that database & it has really good pictures anyway. On top of that, you also have the capability of making your own collage or having your own custom background image to your site.
