Do you do Porn? - Street Articles

Last Update: June 30, 2012
For a while now on Street Articles, there has been 1 article that's been dead set on the 1st spot. It's almost funny. For a very short period of time, I did have 1 or maybe 2 articles reach number 1 spot for a short period of time, but this certain article went right back to #1 spot. This article has had like no activity whatsoever. I posted a huge comment on it about how Matt Cutts is nicknamed the "porn cookie guy", but I mean dang.

The weird thing is, he has no activity on it whatsoever, then BAM. He has 281 Facebook likes. I see 2nd ranked articles and everything below move around like cards being shuffled, but this article called Help For A Porn Addict And The Common Mistake Most Do is like dead set where it's at. By comparing 2 of my articles with 104 comments & tons of social media likes, it's safe to say articles are ranked in there database more heavily based upon how many social likes are received on each article. This is my perception of the matter anyway.

I consider this as important, because the top ranked articles DO get a lot more traffic because of it. When people click on that button called Top Articles, they see those articles. So yes, this is an important consideration.

So with that said, any thoughts?

My goodness, I have 5 articles on the 1st top articles page. I did not know that. I read Kyle's response below and it makes sense. Thanks for the blog, I did not know how to look up the top articles, thanks for that info and keep writing!

This is an algorithm that needs to be updated as it is not based on the full data set that we have available. There are definitely superior articles in terms of reach, quality and overall likeability to the ones that are currently on the top articles page.

These will be updated with a future update to Street Articles. Lots of cool stuff coming on that front as well in 2012.

That'll be cool. I'll be anxious to check these new updates out. I'm honestly starting to leverage more article directories out there, but I'm still leveraging SA more than anything for the "article directory power" I'm using for my campaigns anyway. But I'll definitely stay up to date.

* One thing that concerns me however are the email notifications you receive for people who follow you. There's not a check mark on the account settings to allow people to not receive emails when people they're following write up an article. So because of that, I have a certain email account (that I don't use) that gets spammed by SA notifications of people who publish an article on SA.

Or perhaps you could set it up to where they can choose the people they want to receive notifications on for when they publish articles. I thought I'd address that issue anyway.

Thanks.

Yeah, that is a good suggestion. We will be rolling a notification control at some point so you can choose which notifications you receive.

You can setup filters in gmail to where the email will automatically skip your inbox and go to a folder you've setup for it. Also you can just have it send it to the trash automatically as well.

Thanks Thomas. I'll think about doing that even though i'll probably end up leaving it anyway.... It's on an email I never use so In a way it's already being sent to a trash folder.
