How do I get that motivation.....

Last Update: June 29, 2012
I have a hobby...more like a passion and I am have no issues motivating myself to do it. I take pole dance fitness classes and I have something in me that drives me to keep at it and learn everything I absolutely can. In 4 months I have gone down 5 sizes but I don't care as much about size anymore as I do about getting the next move down. Right now I am working on hanging on upside down with just one leg (no hands) and I can spend hours trying! I spend at least 10 hours a week practicing and I am so bruised that people probably think my husband beats me.

Why can't I transfer the drive I have to be a great dancer to working on my website. I chose pole dancing to write about and if it were just the writing I think I would be okay but the website building is so hard to focus on. So I go back and forth with low paid but easy money things and side jobs that keep me physically active and I can't seem to force myself to work on the site.

Does it get easier once you learn more about all the technical stuff? I really hope it does because I am feeling a little discouraged today. I know if I could have a job related to pole dancing I would love it so I really don't know what my problem is.

Next week the studio is closed so I plan to work on my Pole Dance Fitness site and some more related street articles. I could use any tips you have on focusing so I can get down to business next week.

Is there another niche you are interested in? Perhaps since you have this week off you could look into that? I am focused on one right now, and am confident there is huge potential for it. But I have other interests I could jump over to and begin. How about you? Don't limit yourself.

Things did not turn out the way I wanted them to after all the computer trouble I had earlier this week. I am really interested in my niche and I have been working a little on a second one. I have done some research and found that there is something that everyone that blogs in my niche is looking for so I am going to work on that a little in my spare time.

I like you find it hard to work on my sites, even though I like the subject content. I find the hardest part for me is "Just Starting". Once I'm started it's pretty easy to continue working.

I find the best thing for me is just to go straight to my laptop and start working without thinking. When I start thinking thoughts like "I don't want to work" or "I don't feel like working" that's when it's super hard to start working.

If I come in with a clear mind not thinking anything and just start it's pretty easy to start.

I'm not sure if that made any sense?

Yes that makes perfect sense to me I tend to be an all or nothing person and it actually gets me into a ton of trouble because I give up when I can't get it all done as quickly as I want to. I can be really passionate about something but if I can't make it work in my insane time frame I start to think it will never work. It is easy to monitor my progress as a dancer but not so easy with this type of stuff. Of course the dancing is fun and the work is not so much fun so I am going to go out on a limb and say that is a huge part of the problem.

The tech aspect is probably one of the hardest for new comers to IM to get their heads around, but it does get easier. Feel free to give me a shout (email/pm/live chat) over anything web site related. I also wrote a guide to Wordpress Dashboard that you may find useful (/http://www.apinapress.com/category/guides/dashboard/)

But dont let it get you down, learning how to post an article, add an image, change font size, etc etc is just another dance move, it just takes time to perfect.

That link did not work for some reason. I am always looking for resources to help me so thanks. Thanks for the encouragement as well. I am sure that once you do it over and over again it will get easier just like it does in my dance classes some things I have to practice forever before I get them....so I just have to put the same determination into learning the technical stuff related to IM.

My suggestions:

1. Get an accountability partner. Someone who will give you #$%@ if you don't do it.
2. Set a goal and tell your accountability partner what it is. Make sure the goal is realistic. I set a weekly goal and a daily goal. This way, if I don't hit the goal that day (which sometimes the technical stuff takes a day or two to figure out) I can still achieve the weekly goal.
3. Reward yourself when you achieve your goal. When I hit a big goal, I put a shout out to my IM friends. We motivate each other and the praise from those who understand really helps.

Hope my tips help. Good luck!

That is a really good idea thank you! Anyone want to be my accountability partner my friends and family think I am on another wild goose chase to become a millionaire or something so I can't even talk about it with them. I really want to prove them wrong but without support it makes it really hard to keep on going.
