Does Pay-Per-Click Work?

Last Update: April 26, 2010

Welcome Back Fellow WA Buddies,

I am eager to show you my own campaign, but that work is still in progress.  For now, it's important to talk about the various elements (over time) that a full campaign will include.

Internet marketing is more than a recipe of ingredients...although that's a great definition.  When you're new, it's a puzzle.  The key thing is not to give up.  Let's talk about advertising some more because this part is important to your overall success. It's one area of Internet marketing that really stumps a lot of people.

As I've mentioned in prior posts, there are 2 ways to advertise yourself online:

1) Free

2) Paid

Which one is better? It depends on how your campaign is set up to work (over the long run and short run).

Article Marketing

If you're new to Internet marketing, obviously #1 makes the most sense, but you have to write a ton of articles just to get early flows in traffic.  A lot of people will assume that they only have to write 25 - 30 articles.  The reality is that you have to continually publish yourself.  You trade your time and effort for what will later become money earned.  So why go to all this effort if it seems futile?

Writing articles is the best way to establish your expertise in an area.  It gives you long term credibility and it also helps you generate natural (organic traffic).  This is extremely helpful because you can thereby generate your own quality leads for free !

Article marketing is a long-term approach.

Pay-Per-Click Advertising

If you're able to pay for your advertising online, it's best to start slowly and build from there.  You'll want to establish a monthly budget of say...$300. But..., in cases where you use pay-per-click, you have to know precisely who you're targeting so that you're not spending yourself for nothing.

And..., you have to create several ads to find the ones that will best perform. This is both art and science. Start with 2 ads ..., then add a 3rd..., but rotate out your worst ad... and keep this process going.  Over time, you will have hundreds of ads working for you online.

This Part Is Important

You want to look for the "pause button"  in your Google Adwords account when you're using paid advertising.  That way, you can control how much you spend on a daily basis.  You always have control over what you will spend on a daily basis, but when you don't want your ad(s) to run...say on a Saturday because your particular sub-niche doesn't tend to buy that product or service during a weekend, then you'll want to pause your campaign and let it run during the week.

So be careful with your pay-per-click advertising.  What new Internet marketers don't know is that you can spend your entire monthly budget in paid ads in just one day (as people click on your ads). Don't worry though. There are ways to set a daily limit by listing the number of searches happening in one day as people click on your ad.

If you're not sure how to use pay-per-click, here's something to think about.  The question you read below is a common question new folks online will pose.

I'm thinking about starting a Web site for residual income and need some help on various programs?   What's the best way to proceed?

Yes and no.  Your biggest question should be, what is the purpose of your website? Is it for profit, or not?  If it's the first answer, then pay-per-click is something you'll want to advance towards when you're more ready.  See WA ppc certification coursework, help you ahead of time.

If your site is for information purposes, will this site (or blog) help people determine what they'll later buy?  If so, it could be possible that you'll want to use article marketing as your first course of advertising.  That way, you can earn your early seed money later paying for your ppc advertising.

This Part Is Important

When you build a campaign online, it should be a closed system.  That is, it should be a system that's designed to keep all of your visitors on YOUR site..., going there for information or to learning more about you, your product(s) and your service(s).

Here's Why.

If you're in this game for profit, then you'll want to earn something you can live by. Don't be shy about aiming for something great in your life because you deserve to be compensated well.

If you're looking to earn a very small slice of the pie, most newbies will make this mistake.  They'll send visitors to someone else's site.

Aim For A Complete Solution

It took me a few years to figure out what I'm sharing with you today.  You're looking for a system that will help you build something valuable for the long run... to the point where you will have a provable traffic record (using something like Webanalyzer or Google Analytics).

Then, you'll want to get highly-targeted advertisers to pay for SHOWING your ads instead.  This is pay-per-impression rather than pay-per-click.

Google's analytic tool is easier to use because you can click on "view report" when you're looking at traffic (defined as the # of people who have viewed your website ...or say... your blog).

The 2nd resource seems a bit complicated for most of us so I would recommend you use Google analytics.

Feel free to post your questions and I'll do my very best to help.
